‘He pushed the Russia hoax’: Trey Gowdy pummeled as a ‘traitor’ after speedy DeSantis interview

Former Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy, now a Fox News contributor, is facing backlash for interviewing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis right after he announced his candidacy for president this Wednesday.

Supporters of former President Donald Trump say this makes him a traitor, especially if he doesn’t follow up with an interview with former President Donald Trump. In attacking him, many Trump supporters have also accused him of being complicit in the Russian collusion delusion hoax and conspiracy theory.

Critics have also bashed him for interviewing DeSantis during former Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s 8:00 pm timeslot.

Equal time, gowdy, traitor, interview Trump now

Trey Gowdy is a deep state traitor. Sorry, not sorry

Trey is a damn liar! Helped push the whole Russia crap with Ryan. Corrupt! Won’t ever vote DeSantis! We’ll vote Democrat before him

Trey Gowdy? The guy who claimed he believed Russia collusion

DeSantis will probably bend over for the traitors at the FBI

Ah – so at the 8 PM hour, neocon stooge and RINO traitor Trey Gowdy will be the first to interview Meatball. How convenient that Tucker’s firing coincided with this event!

Of course Trey Gowdy. The pieces fit so well. They are betting people don’t remember he wouldn’t serve subpoenas issued by Matt Gaetz and team during the Russia hoax trial. He’s a traitor just like Ron DeStablishment.

Gowdy’s alleged complicity in the Russian collusion delusion hoax and conspiracy theory was first reported by The Federalist way back in 2018.

“Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) recently suggested the FBI did nothing wrong when it used at least one government informant to secretly collect information on Donald Trump’s presidential campaign,” the report reads.

“Public reports indicate, however, that Gowdy never even reviewed the relevant documents on the matter subpoenaed by Congress. In fact, a spokeswoman for Gowdy told The Federalist that the congressman doesn’t even know what documents and records were subpoenaed by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI),” the report continues.

This report, which has emerged on the right amid Gowdy’s interview of DeSantis, has even some DeSantis supporters crying foul, albeit for different reasons:

Team DeSantis is making a lot of unforced errors. Gowdy is scum, he pushed the Russiagate hoax, defended the FBI, and is overall a disgrace to the country. He shouldn’t be allowed in a room with conservatives. DeSantis is out of touch on these issues. https://t.co/Xnj5kCtD4h

I used to think so highly of Trey. Until I didn’t. The fact that RDS is being interviewed by him isn’t good optics at all especially for those of us who understand that @TGowdySC knew about the Russia hoax early on and failed to do anything to stop it. Gowdy is a RINO fraud

The report was published after Gowdy claimed the FBI “did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do” in the since-debunked Russia probe.

“I am even more convinced that the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got, and that it has nothing to do with Donald Trump,” the South Carolina Republican said at the time.

However, he did later change his tune.

When he appeared on Fox News’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight” in May of 2020, the eponymous host played a clip of Gowdy previously saying what he’d said about his fellow citizens. The Fox News host then asked the former GOP congressman whether he still believes that.

“Oh gosh, no. I made a lot of mistakes in life — relying on briefings, and not insisting on the documents,” Gowdy replied, adding that he’d changed his mind only “about three weeks” after he’d made his original remarks.

Tucker Carlson presses Trey Gowdy on his defense of the FBI’s actions during the Russia investigation:

“My mistake was relying on the word of the FBI and the DOJ and not insisting on all of the documents. Luckily, it took me about three weeks to correct that mistake.” pic.twitter.com/nsAXL1lb8g

Dovetailing back to Trump supporters, they’re also unhappy with Gowdy over his refusal to join then-President Trump’s legal team ahead of his first impeachment trial in the Senate in early 2020.

“The president has good lawyers and more importantly good facts. He does not need another lawyer added to his team. He needs the trial to begin and end,” Gowdy told CBS News at the time.

That Trey Gowdy is still on air exemplifies as well as anything Fox News’ utter contempt for the cattle https://t.co/ein4BW1pgK
